    Summer Recap: Lessons Learned

The dog ate the charcuterie board for the picnic. The kids got lost momentarily at the state park. The ice cream melted before you could get home.

Sound familiar? If you’re like most families, you probably had a few summer mishaps. While it’s tempting to feel bad about them, these experiences can actually be a lot of fun to look back on later!

Here are three lessons your family can learn from this summer’s misadventures.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff — Really

The saying goes, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” And while that’s easy enough to understand in theory, it’s much harder to put into practice — especially when things go wrong.

Whether it’s a flat tire on a hot summer day or a broken air conditioner in the middle of a heatwave, it can be all too easy to let the little things turn into big headaches. But if you can learn to take a step back and keep your cool, you’ll find that life is a lot easier and more enjoyable.

Let’s say you overspent on your recent vacation. You might be frustrated, but it’s something you can recover from in various ways. First, consider shopping around on your monthly bills to save money. For example, you can contact Freeway Insurance to get a better rate on car insurance, even with a less-than-perfect driving record.

Summer is the perfect time to put this philosophy into practice, so next time you’re feeling frazzled, remember: if this isn’t going to matter in five years, don’t spend too much time worrying about it.

    Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

So many small things can go wrong during the summer — a beloved piece of jewelry gets misplaced on vacation, the kids have a meltdown in the airport, or you just can’t seem to relax and enjoy yourself no matter how hard you try.

It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of summer plans and forget that there’s always tomorrow. It can help to take yourself and your circumstance a little less seriously. Have a sense of humor about what goes wrong, and be prepared to roll with the punches.

So go ahead and enjoy yourself, knowing that mishaps are all part of the adventure.

    Prepare For the Unexpected

Being prepared for the unexpected is a good way to bounce back more quickly from summer mishaps. It can help you minimize the damage and get back to enjoying your summer as quickly as possible, no matter what happens.

Having a sense of humor about unusual situations can also go a long way towards making it more bearable. So next time you face a summer setback, do your best to relax and remember you can always laugh about it later!

    Learning Lessons from Summer

Mishaps will happen — but it’s all part of the fun.

Often the most frustrating situations make the funniest stories in the future. You’ll probably find that you can make up for what you lost, and you’ll have important lessons to apply in the future.

Have a great rest of the summer!
